Description
From the top of the Swan Neck to the bottom of the wall flange is approx. 290mm. From the wall flange to the outer edge of the shade carrier is approx. 310mm. From the top of the Swan Neck to the bottom of the shade when fitted is approx. 290mm and shade has an approx. diameter of 140mm. The three shade screws are original. The Shade has a small nibble on the bottom edge which I have gently filed with a diamond glass file to remove any sharpness and if positioned to the rear is hardly noticeable.
The Alloy shade carrier, which originally held the Mantle/Wick, bears the name Veritas. This Company was established in the London in 1919 as Falks Veritas, a spin off from a German company by the same name. They concentrated on Mantle and Wick production since gas lighting was the norm over electricity. The main body of this Lamp was probably made in a local Metalworks. It is therefore assumed this Lamp is most probably from the early 1920s.
The Lamp was completely stripped down as shown and drilled out where necessary to accept wires. The main tap by the wall flange was drilled out and has been soldered in the open position to avoid malfunction. The regulator valve has been cut off for the same reason. The supply cable has been fitted with ‘boot lace’ crimps for easy connection.
The Light has been tested for electrical safety, labelled and registered and should only be fitted to a suitably fused light circuit by a Qualified Electrician.
